A male is typically seen to provide more financial stability to parents than a daughter in the extremely patriarchal culture, and girls and women endure pervasive assault.
Jannat Fatima, a newborn girl, was slain on Sunday in Mianwali, Punjab province’s capital city, prompting a search for her father, Shahzeb Khan, who was apprehended on Wednesday night after a series of raids, according to Punjab police.
“The complainants informed the police that the murderer had been moaning for three or four days that he wanted a son and that he was extremely furious,” Zarrar Khan, a Mianwali police spokeswoman, told AFP.
“His wife also acknowledged that he was enraged by the fact that he had a girl and desired a boy.”
The event occurred roughly a month after a pregnant lady was taken to the hospital with a nail pounded into her skull after a faith healer promised she would give birth to a son if she did so.
The mother of three girls revealed that she was expecting a fourth child.
