Keith Randulich sat in a police questioning room shortly after killing his 4-year-old sister in his Mokena bedroom, allegedly glancing at his blood-stained jeans as he recounted why he did it.

During a sentencing hearing Tuesday, prosecutors revealed a video clip of Randulich’s interview with police, which occurred soon after he violently sliced the neck of his half-sister, Sabrina Clement, in 2009. Last month, Randulich, 19, pled guilty to murder charges.

Randulich, then an 18-year-old senior at Lincoln-Way East High School, said in the video that he planned to murder his sister to protect her from a cousin he suspected of sexually abusing the girl.

He said, “I had a future.” “I didn’t do this for nothing.”

Randulich said that he took the choice that day after his mother “wouldn’t let me use any of my money” to purchase a rifle with which he secretly intended to murder the relative.

Mokena cops Sgt. Jason Louthan said Tuesday that no proof of “physical mistreatment” to Clement was uncovered. Randulich had a mental-health assessment after the murder, but the findings were never given with prosecutors, according to a state’s attorney spokesperson.

Randulich told investigators that after his parents and brother departed for an event on May 22, he cleaned some dishes in the kitchen and grabbed a steak knife, which he put into the front pocket of his sweatshirt.

“I just said I loved her and pulled out the knife, and she smiled at me,” Randulich explained to the detectives. “I made a little incision on her neck, and she screamed and cried, ‘Stop!'”

“I knew right then that I had to murder my little sister,” he says later in the tape. “At that moment, there was no turning back… “I was great friends with her.”

“I simply got back into it,” he said. “She grasped her neck, but I simply carried on.”

Randulich told cops that he believed this would be the quickest method to kill his sister, but it wasn’t, and she was “in excruciating agony.”

Randulich described her as “screaming and battling.” “(She said), ‘Why are you murdering me?'”

Randulich then said that he walked upstairs and dialed 911. In a tape of the conversation heard in court Tuesday, he adds, “I — get over here immediately.”

He then went back to the basement, where Clement was dead.

Randulich was constantly questioned by the investigators to explain why he felt he was protecting Clement by murdering her. “How could you hurt something so beautiful?” one of the two detectives interviewing her questioned.

“I’m not proud of it,” Randulich said. “There’s no reason for it.

“She was the one in the family I adored the most.” She was my closest companion.”

Randulich said that if he could go back in time, he would obtain a job so that he could buy a pistol and shoot the relative.

“It was a waste of time,” he said.

Randulich is due to be sentenced on February 2.
