Global airlines are less hopeful in recovery of COVID-19 cases and estimates that it would take longer to operate as normal until 2024. The crisis will prevail for passenger traffic to resume to pre-corona period.
International Air Transport Association (IATA) mentioned the threatening impact of this pandemic on air travel. It said that this virus containment in the United States and developing countries is slow compared to others. For corporate travel, the risk is still higher and hence restricted.
IATA said that prior to this pandemic, several travel barriers and restrictions are imposed which lowered the number of travel passengers to 55% in 2020. Earlier it was predicted to drop by sharp 46% in April.
IATA Chief Economist Brian Pearce said that the second half of the year also sees less recovery as expected.
In June, the passengers were dropped to 86.5 as compared to the same period last year. The air travel faced 91% contraction in May 2020.
Air travel was banned in many countries during the crisis of global lockdown. However, United States and developing countries weakened the recovery prospects of Covid-19 when they allowed 40% of global air travel.
