The opposition in All Parties Conference announced of forming a Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) against the government in October. The anti-government movement will be launched in 10 days, demanding immediate resignation of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The movement has a series of plans including protests and rallies, arranging a long march in January 2021 against the present government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman, addressed a press conference declaring plans of the movement ‘ In October, joint public rallies in the provincial capitals and other cities would be held in the first phase and later in December, big rallies would be carried out in the same capacity in second phase. The protest would continue in form of a decisive long march which will be held in January 2021.
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) President Shahbaz Sharif, and other leaders, who earlier attended the APC supported him in the decision.
PPP Chairman Bilawal said that ‘Imran Khan has won the elections due to rigging and had given the formula of minus himself.’
Bilawal said in the conference that we have all the democratic rights to protest, show no-confidence and demand resignations.
The reason behind the proposed PDM is also an important step towards a democratic Pakistan and it would start functioning from Monday.
Opposition leader in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif said that “Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government’s survival became a threat to our country’s existence”. He said that the incumbent government pretended to fake democracy in the country.
(JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said the APC demand for fresh polls in the country with complete transparency in elections.
He said the APC has declared that the “incumbent selected government has been granted artificial stability and it has been imposed on people through rigged elections.” He highlighted the issues of a common man facing record-high inflation, unemployment, and taxes and asks for lowering the prices of everyday necessity as flour, sugar, ghee, electricity and gas be immediately.
He also indicated the government had “failed miserably” to preserve the basic rights of citizens. The APC resolution also said China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is an important project for the country, which the “inexperienced government” had put in danger. The opposition demanded to expedite the CPEC projects and work on the Motorway and railways on the western route on an immediate basis.
Earlier, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif also addressed the APC via video link from London saying it was a crime to commit dacoity on the rights of masses.
Nawaz supported the decision of anti-government movement saying it the right time. He said now the CPEC is in confusion, foreign investment has come to an end, blamed the incompetent government destroyed the country’s economy in the last two years. GDP growth rate had gone below zero and a difficult time for the poor to earn their living.
“The government has taken U-turn on every issue and instead of fulfilling the promise of giving 10 million jobs, it has rendered 12 million people jobless,” stated Nawaz Sharif.
Many points were raised and issues were discussed in the meeting regarding the incompetency of government by the opposition leaders. All the members of the APC are determined to demand immediate resignations from the incumbent government and demand new transparent elections.
