To protect against cyber assaults, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has acquired software to modernise its databases.
The tax agency spent Rs. 300 million on different software to improve its database.
The Cabinet’s Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has allocated Rs. 3.8 billion in cash for the acquisition of software or hardware for system upgrades.
The tax department, on the other hand, used open tendering to secure Oracle ACS services for database security, VMware virtualization, backup and recovery, secure E-mail, a web gateway, WAF, ADC, security incident and event management system, and the setup of a security operation center, perimeter firewall, and Microsoft Windows server.
According to sources, multinational corporations engaged in the open bidding procedure, which resulted in savings of more than Rs. 2 billion for the department.
Because of the cyber-attack on the FBR on August 14, 2021, the Cabinet authorized the FBR to ignore the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) restrictions to acquire software or hardware
For the finalization of the tendering process in the last week of January 2022, the FBR formed an 11-member committee under the direction of the current Director-General of Benami.
