The Punjab government has changed the pay scale for matriculation and intermediate examination paper checkers.
Examiners will get an increase of Rs. 5 per paper, with those who check more than 50 matriculation papers receiving Rs. 45 per document and those who check less than 50 papers receiving Rs. 35 per paper.
For intermediate examiners, a similar pay system has been set, with those checking more than 50 papers earning Rs. 50 per paper and those checking fewer than 50 papers receive Rs. 40 per paper.
In addition, aides to the chief examiners would be paid Rs. 3.5 per paper for their efforts.
The examiners have approved the judgment, but they have also recommended that the payments be provided without tax deductions.
According to one examiner who requested anonymity, more than 17% of their salary is presently withheld for taxes. They have judged this approach unfair and have demanded that the taxes be deducted from their own funds.
