Despite repeatedly claiming to be leading a peaceful march to the federal capital, PTI Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan revealed that the demonstrators who followed him on the “Azadi March” were armed.
In an interview with a private television station, the former prime minister warned that if the PTI’s “Azadi March” and skirmishes between party members and police had persisted, the nation would have descended into chaos.
“There was already hate among the people owing to Punjab Police searches on PTI MPs’ homes a day before the march,” Khan remarked, adding that he was “100% convinced” the scenario would devolve into mayhem.
“Our guys were armed as well. I was scared that riots might break out in the nation now “Khan said to the interviewer.
He said that continuing with the march would have sparked animosity against the police and soldiers, as well as additional divides in the nation.
“Such a setup would have benefitted only the power thieves,” Khan said.
He said that the government blamed the PTI for the martyred constable’s death, referring to searches of the homes of other PTI officials.
“Anyone would think a burglar broke into a residence around 2 a.m.,” he added. “We have never participated in provocative politics.”
