UAE and Saudi Arabia confirmed that the first day of Eidul Fitr would be on Thursday (May 13) as the Shawwal moon has not been sighted in the kingdom.
“The Shawwal crescent was not sighted in the UAE as well and the Gulf country will mark the first day of Eid on May 13.”
May 13, will be the first day of Eid Al Fitr in the UAE, authorities in the UAE confirmed on Tuesday.
Saudi Arabia to mark Eid -ul -Fitr on Thursday (tomorrow) as the Shawwal moon was not sighted on Tuesday. According to Saudi Gazette, the Shawwal crescent moon was not sighted, meaning Ramazan will last 30 days this year and Eid-ul Fitr will fall on Thursday, May 13.
The Shawwal crescent was not sighted in the UAE as well and the Gulf country will mark the first day of Eid on May 13.
Wednesday will be the last and 30th day of Ramadan. The committee met on Tuesday night for the sighting of the crescent moon.
UAE employees have a long weekend for Eid that started on May 11 (Tuesday), and holidays will continue until the 3rd day of Shawwal. Since Thursday has been confirmed as the first day of Eid, this would mean that the 3rd day of Shawwal is May 15, Saturday.
- Eid prayers will be held in approved mosques and prayer grounds across the country, with the facilities closing immediately after the sermon.
- The mosques will also open only 15 minutes before prayer time, but ablution spaces will continue to remain closed.
- Worshippers must continue under following strict SOP’s to wear masks at all time, and maintain physical distancing before and after the Eid prayer services.
- The elderly above the age of 60 years, and children aged 12 years and younger, are recommended to stay home for their own safety.
- Designated volunteers and officials will direct entry and exit from the mosque in order to avoid congestion, the NCEMA has added.
