ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) petitions against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s wife Kulsoom Nawaz and PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif were dismissed by the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday.
The appeals were considered by a two-judge panel of the Supreme Court, which included Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Justice Mansoor Ali Shah.
The country’s main tax collection agency alleged in the appeal that Kulsoom and Shehbaz failed to pay the wealth tax imposed on them between 1994 and 1998.
Shehbaz and Kulsoom, on the other hand, have paid their wealth tax throughout that time, according to the highest court.
The Supreme Court also pointed out that the FBR had sent letters to Kulsoom and Shahbaz, but had failed to serve them with a demand notice.
While rejecting the FBR’s appeals, the court observed that the FBR had also failed to establish that the demand notifications were issued.
The FBR was given one more opportunity to produce documentation of notifications that might prove extra taxes collected on Kulsoom and Shehbaz at the previous hearing.The FBR case had already been dismissed by the Lahore High Court, which noted in its verdict that the FBR had failed to present a record of notifications for extra tax.
