Prime Minister Imran Khan got a phone call from Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, during which the two leaders reviewed the recent developments in Afghanistan and other issues.
Close coordination of Pak-Russia on Afghanistan is critical
According to a statement released by the PM Office, the two leaders discussed the recent developments in Afghanistan, bilateral cooperation, and collaboration in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) during their previous phone chat on August 25 this year.
Peace and stability in Afghanistan are critical for regional security and prosperity, according to the prime minister.
PM Imran emphasized the expanding cooperation across a range of industries in the bilateral context, and underlined Pakistan’s determination to further improve the overall partnership.
Strengthening trade and investment, as well as energy cooperation, are the cornerstones of engagement with Russia, he said.
The North-South Pipeline, a 1,100-kilometer project, is expected to transport 12.4 billion cubic metres of natural gas each year. To avoid US sanctions on Russian firms, the project’s name and partnership structure were altered to ‘Pakistan Stream.’
He extended President Putin another offer to visit Pakistan. According to the communiqué, Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended an invitation to Prime Minister Imran Khan to visit Moscow.
Converging views on critical regional and international issues, increased confidence, and increasing bilateral collaboration have propelled relations between Islamabad and Moscow to new heights, as seen by recent high-level meetings.
Both leaders agreed to maintain constant communication.
