Karachi: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued 77 nomination papers ahead of the by-elections in Karachi’s NA-240 Korangi seat.
Candidates for the NA-240 Korangi seat in Karachi have received a total of 77 nomination papers.
Candidates from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Pak-Sarzameen Party (PSP), Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), and others submitted nomination papers.
Only one PPP contender, Naeem Sheikh, has yet to file papers for the NA-240 by-elections.
Following the death of MQM-P politician Iqbal Muhammad Ali, the seat in the National Assembly (NA) became vacant.
The deadline for submitting nomination papers is Tuesday, May 10th, and the ECP will finish the vetting process by May 14th. By May 17, the ECP will receive appeals against the approval and rejection of nomination papers, and by May 21, a tribunal will rule on the challenges.
The ECP will provide a revised list of candidates on May 23, while the withdrawal of nomination papers will be permitted on May 24. On the same day, the final candidate list will be released.
On May 25, election emblems will be distributed, and voting will take place on June 16.
