ISLAMABAD: In partnership with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and mobile phone operators, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) have devised a new system for temporary registration of abroad Pakistani and foreign nationals mobile devices.
This module was created for overseas Pakistanis and foreign nationals who do not plan to maintain their mobile device in Pakistan, and it will only be applicable to one mobile cellular device.
To use this service, the applicant must supply his or her credentials, which include a passport number, arrival and departure dates, a mobile SIM card issued in his or her name, and the device’s IMEI(s).
The new system will use the FIA’s Integrated Border Management System (IBMS) to validate the applicant’s arrival date in real-time.
The IMEI(s) used under this facility will be suspended after 120 days of the applicant’s stay and will not be used on local network services. If the same applicant returns to Pakistan, he or she must reapply for this temporary assistance by re-entering the credentials used for the first or earlier registration under this program.
This approach would not only make it easier for abroad Pakistanis and foreign citizens to visit Pakistan on a short-term basis, but it will also promote Pakistan’s image. Similarly, the system’s inspections will guarantee that only authentic abroad Pakistanis/foreign nationals benefit from the service.
