On October 11, PML-N MNA Pervaiz Malik died of a heart attack, leaving the seat vacant.
In the absence of a candidate from the governing Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), a tight race is predicted between the two parties.
The PML-N had previously been considered a cakewalk in NA-133 elections, but that has changed thanks to an efficient election campaign managed by the PPP’s Central Punjab president and former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.
The PPP has selected an old guard from Lahore, Chaudhry Mohammad Aslam Gill, who will be running against PML-Shaista N’s Pervaiz Malik. Political commentators foresee an upset in the seat. Ms Malik, on the other hand, is expected to get sympathy votes as the widow of the PML-N leader who died on October 11, leaving the seat empty.
