ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan presided over a meeting of the National Action Plan (NAP) Apex Committee on Thursday, when it was resolved that measures to combat extremism and violence must be adopted immediately. National Action Plan’s body decided to act decisively against extremism.
Federal ministers for foreign affairs, defence, finance, interior, and information, as well as the army chief, the director-general of Inter-services Intelligence (ISI), national security advisor, provincial chief ministers, including Gilgit-PM, Baltistan’s federal secretaries, chief secretaries, inspector generals, and other senior civil and military officials, attended the meeting.

The committee discussed the amended NAP’s short-, medium-, and long-term goals, as well as the roles and duties of all stakeholders, including the federal government, provinces, and law enforcement organizations. It was decided that each aim would have measurable key performance indicators with well defined dates.
It was determined to expedite the execution of a number of measures to address emerging security threats, including cyber security, espionage, judicial and civil reforms, law enforcement capacity building, counter-violent extremism, and other issues that directly affect national security. It was resolved to establish a National Crisis Information Management Cell with the ministries of Interior and Information as lead bodies in order to ensure fast, accurate, and smooth flow of information about internal security situations.
The summit also discussed different measures taken to protect the safety of foreigners in Pakistan, particularly Chinese nationals working on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and non-CPEC projects.
The meeting also went over the internal situation, including some recent law and order problems. It was decided that all necessary steps would be taken to protect internal security, and that criminals would face the full force of the law.
