ISLAMABAD: According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), no cases of Omicron, a novel coronavirus strain, have been verified in Pakistan as of yet.
“The sample is not yet proven to be Omicron by whole genome sequencing, which is to be undertaken after collecting the sample,” the NIH explained in response to media reports of a “suspected case” of Omicron variation reported in a female patient.

A female patient with a travel history was identified with the Omicron variant at a private hospital in Karachi earlier today, according to the Sindh Health Department.
Officials are attempting to learn about her travel history and connections, according to the report. The lady has been released from the hospital and is attempting to isolate herself at home.
