KARACHI: The Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) has initiated a training programme for 18 women drivers to operate modern buses.
In the beginning stages, the Motorway Police and SMTA are joining forces to empower and train women drivers. Skilled instructors from the Peoples Bus Service (PBS), a branch of SMTA, are offering hands-on guidance in bus driving to these women, fostering their learning and development.
In the subsequent phase, the training programme will expand to include transgender drivers.
Once these dedicated women drivers successfully complete their training, they will be ready to take the wheel and contribute their skills to operate buses for both the Bus Rapid Transit Division (BRTD) and the Peoples Bus Service (PBS).
