Karachi collapsed again by the record-breaking rain on Thursday which took lives of 18 people. The cases of drowning, structural collapses, lightning, electrocution, flooding happened all in a single day as effects of rainfall. The worst urban flooding also hit Karachi filling all of the city’s underpasses and flooding the low-lying residential areas and markets.
Several houses of underprivileged have been destructed by the non-stop rain creating havoc in the city. Thousands of people were stuck on roads and in offices. Vehicles were drowning, people were drowning due to the speedy flow of water on the main roads of Karachi. Very disturbing incidents happened and every person who was out on the roads faced the reality of poor management of the Sindh government.

Rain is considered as a moment of joy but in Karachi, it has been a nightmare.
Innocent people were drowned to death due to the mishaps of the rain. The torrential rains in the city are declared a natural disaster. The worst urban flooding created massive destruction as the two main underpasses of KPT at Clifton and near Punjab colony created a disturbance in the city.
Several areas are filled with sewage-mixed waters which entered homes, offices, markets giving the worst scenarios. Buses, trucks, cars and even police mobiles were submerged several feet deep in water and were swept away with strong pressure of water in the city.
Volunteers of different organizations Al-Khidmat Foundation, Edhi, Chipa, Army, and others rescued a lot of people from their homes and also those stuck on roads. They provided them rations and food and shifted them to safer places.
After 89 years, such heavy rainfall has happened in the city which continued for 15 hours from Thursday morning till night. 230 mm of rain is recorded which is never observed in such a short time. This monsoon season is considered as the first one with such heavy rainfall.
Almost 95 percent of Karachi remained without electricity on Thursday creating more difficulties for the people. Pakistan’s army has come to the rescue of Karachi people. They have established Army Flood Emergency Control Centre for helping flood victims whereas medical camps were also built at Gulberg, Liaqatabad and New Karachi in district Central.
The ISPR stated that they have dewatered more than 36 sites in the city under their supervision and distributed food to over 10,000 people flood victims in various areas.
