The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has launched a public relations effort to promote the Asaan Mobile Account.
According to the SBP release, the media campaign was started in conjunction with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the United Kingdom’s Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) to address financial exclusion concerns experienced by unbanked sectors of society.
According to SBP, the start of a mass media campaign would assist raise public knowledge about the Asaan Mobile Account, attracting unbanked sectors into the formal financial network.
According to the announcement, the mass media campaign would include all major television, radio, print, and internet outlets throughout the nation. In addition, to achieve maximum reach, the campaign would be launched in Urdu as well as other regional languages.
Customers may establish an Asaan Mobile Account by dialling the USSD code *2262# from any mobile phone (smart or basic feature phone) on any mobile network, without the requirement for internet access, according to SBP. Following that, users may choose their favorite bank from a list of branchless banking providers and access a variety of financial services such as money transfers, deposits, bill payments, mobile top-ups, balance inquiries, and so on.
In conjunction with the PTA, the SBP introduced the Asaan Mobile Account initiative in December 2021. According to SBP figures, more over 3.3 million accounts have been established since the scheme’s soft launch, with 6.1 million financial transactions worth Rs. 40.5 billion completed so far.
