A sad incident occurred at Drexel University where Terrence Butler, a talented basketball player and forward, was discovered deceased in his on-campus apartment on Wednesday. The university hasn’t disclosed the exact reason behind his passing, and authorities are currently investigating the situation.
Terrence Butler was regarded highly by the university as he was not only known for his basketball skills but also excelled academically. He was on track to become a junior, and his potential both on the court and in the classroom was well-recognized by the school officials.
The President of the school released a statement post-Butlerās death:
On behalf of the entire Drexel community, we extend our deepest sympathy to Terrence’s family, friends and teammates. In addition to being a student-athlete, Terrence was involved in numerous activities and organizations at Drexel and was a friend to many throughout the University community.

Despite not being one of the top basketball players at Drexel University, Butler had significant potential. Weighing 235 pounds, he was a forward about to start his junior season with the Dragons. He had been a backup player since he first entered college in the 2021-2022 season.
Butler’s passing has deeply affected his basketball community and friends, as basketball was a fundamental part of his identity. Those who were close to him and played alongside him described him as a kind and skilled individual. Following his tragic death, Drexel University announced that their Counseling Center would be available to support all students in need.
Terrence Butler’s basketball journey began at Bishop McNamara High School in Forestville, Maryland, where he stood out as the team’s most valuable player in 2019. He was even nominated as a McDonald’s All-American for 2021. Unfortunately, his college playing time was limited due to injuries, and he only managed to participate in eight games over two years. During his sophomore year, he played in seven of those eight games, accumulating a total of 30 minutes on the court. Throughout those seven games, he managed to secure 9 rebounds, score 4 points, provide 2 assists, and make 2 steals.
As for his family, Butler is survived by his parents and two sisters, Tiara and Tasia.
