WhatsApp, the private messaging app owned by Meta, has begun testing emoji responses on Android.
According to WABetaInfo, a credible source of impending WhatsApp features, emoji responses have begun to surface in beta version 2.22.8.3 of the service’s Android app, providing users with a fast and simple option to reply to incoming messages.
Along with its introduction on Android, there are indications that emoji responses are on their way to the service’s iOS and desktop clients, according to the article.
WhatsApp’s beta app for iOS has featured a settings option to limit “Reaction Notifications” since early January, and a similar item surfaced in the beta version of the desktop software earlier this month.
Emoji responses are now prevalent in various messaging systems such as iMessage, Facebook Messenger, Google’s Messages app, and even Twitter Direct Messages. Finally, one of the world’s most popular messaging applications is joining the fray.
