Retired Captain Mohammad Safdar, husband of Maryam Nawaz, arrested early morning on Monday. The Sindh Police arrested him from Karachi hotel. Maryam Nawaz claimed that the police arrested her husband while she was sleeping and they barged in through the door.
Later in the day, PML-N vice-president Maryam Nawaz was informed during her press conference that Capt Safdar has been granted bail. The bail given by judicial magistrate to her husband against surety bonds of Rs100,000 in Karachi. She was accompanied by JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman, PPP leader Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and other political leaders in the press conference when Mariam Aurangzeb told her about the bail.
The PML-N leader Capt Safdar detained at the Aziz Bhatti police station and then brought to the City Courts. The police then asked the judge to grant physical remand of Safdar. Outside the courtroom where bail application presented, there were supporters of PML-N and PTI, chanting slogans against each other.
Capt Safdar raised Slogans at Quaid mausoleum
Maryam Nawaz, Capt Safdar and 200 supporters entered the hallway in Quaid Mazaar to offer fateha. After the quranic verses recitation by the qari, Maryam and a few others offered fateha inside the grilled premises. PML-N workers then started chanting slogans in favor of Maryam to which Capt Safdar encouraged them to start shouting “Vote ko izzat do”.
Safdar then started chanting another slogan, ‘long live mother of the nation’, and the crowd followed him. This happened for a couple of minutes and then Maryam along with others left the premises.
A day after he raised slogans at the Quaid’s mausoleum, FIR lodged against Maryam, Safdar and 200 others for violating the sanctity of the Quaid’s mazaar. This created an outrage on social media as the incident was disrespectful and people vented their anger against Safdar, Maryam and the PML-N.
PTI supporters and leaders strongly condemn the act as indecent and inappropriate in such a sacred place. Federal Minister Ali Zaidi tweeted a video of Capt Safdar shouting slogans and expressed: “This is just not acceptable. The sanctity of Quaid’s Mazar disrespected by these criminals masquerading as politicians.”
All Pakistanis were offended towards the actions of Capt Safdar. He was arrested a day later and got bail soon. Both, Capt Safdar and Maryam Nawaz have now flown to Lahore after his bail.
