February 8 marks a significant day in Pakistan – the 2024 elections. This year, a record number of first-time voters will participate, making their voices heard.
Essential Steps for Voting in Pakistan
Locating Your Polling Station
First and foremost, identify your polling station by texting your ID Card number to 8300. Plan to arrive early, as polls open at 8 AM and close at 6 PM, to avoid long lines. Remember, only the original ID card is acceptable; copies or other documents are not.
Mobile Phones and Security
Leaving your mobile phone at home is advisable since they are prohibited within the polling station. Expect a security check upon entry by police and security forces.
The Voting Process
Once inside, the presiding officer will confirm your name and electoral roll number, then issue you two ballots for both the national and provincial assemblies. Each ballot must be stamped and signed on the back by the officer.
Indelible Ink Mark
You will receive an indelible ink mark on a finger or thumb to indicate you’ve voted. The officer will record your voter and CNIC numbers on the ballot’s counterfoil, stamp it, sign it, and then take your thumb impression.
Filling Out the Ballot
In the designated area, you’ll fill out your ballot. Double-check for the presiding officer’s signature and stamp on each ballot’s back to ensure your vote counts.
Ballot Papers and Booths
You’ll receive two ballots: a green one for the National Assembly and a white one for the Provincial Assembly. In the privacy of the polling booth, stamp your choices and wait a moment for the ink to dry before folding the ballots properly.
Casting Your Vote
Finally, deposit the green ballot in the box with a green top and the white ballot in the box with a white top.
Making Your Vote Count
Following these steps ensures a smooth voting experience. It’s a day to contribute to Pakistan future, and every vote, including yours, is pivotal.
