Tragedy struck in Nawabshah as the Hazara Express train derailed, resulting in a devastating loss of life. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah shared the grim news that 30 passengers lost their lives and 110 others sustained injuries in the accident. Following the derailment, the Chief Minister visited the scene to assess the situation firsthand.
The incident occurred near Sarhari, causing 10 coaches of the train to derail. This particular train was en route from Karachi to Sargodha. The rescue teams have been working tirelessly to clear the affected train cars and help passengers who were trapped. Unfortunately, there’s a possibility that the death toll might increase, as 10 of the injured individuals are in critical condition, according to rescue sources.
Eyewitnesses at the scene described the heart-wrenching discovery of 25 bodies within one of the train coaches. The Pakistan Railways spokesperson mentioned that over 1000 passengers had reserved seats on this ill-fated journey. The situation remains intense as rescue efforts continue.
A state of emergency has been declared in nearby hospitals due to a critical situation. The railway tracks between Karachi and Lahore are currently blocked because of a rescue operation.
Two trains carrying relief and rescue teams have been dispatched from Sukkur to the location of the incident. Those who were injured are currently receiving medical treatment at hospitals in Nawabshah, Tando Adam, Shahdadpur, and Hyderabad.
The Chief Minister of Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, expressed his condolences for the loss of lives in the train accident. He instructed the relevant authorities to promptly provide medical assistance to the victims.
Over the past two years alone, there have been 500 minor and major accidents on railway tracks that are more than 150 years old. These accidents have become commonplace due to the deteriorated condition of 300 kilometers of railway tracks. Strangely, no one seems willing to take responsibility for this situation.
