Unofficial and unconfirmed by-polling results in NA-240 Karachi have begun to flood in, with the MQM-P dominating in the early results.
According to preliminary, unofficial, and unverified results from 130 voting stations, Muhammad Abu Bakar of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan is leading with 4,460 votes, followed by Shehzada Shehbaz of the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) with 4,402 votes.
Rafiuddin of the Muhajir Qaumi Movement is in third place with 3,457 votes. Nasir Raheem of the PPP and Shabir Qaimkhani of the PSP received 2,173 and 1,942 votes, respectively.
A person was murdered after being shot during a by-election in Karachi’s NA-240 seat, while many others were injured as the by-election was plagued by violence.
The event occurred as political activity in the constituency — which includes parts of Korangi and Landhi — increased, with political parties vying for the NA seat.
AIG Karachi Javed Alam Odho, the Additional Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Karachi, said he has talked with the district returning officer (DRO) and would file a complaint against those who participated in violence during the by-elections.
“Police are creating a report, and we will file a case based on the DRO’s complaint,” the metropolis’ police chief stated, adding that more than 200 individuals were part in the incident.
The Karachi police chief went on to declare that authorities will quickly identify those guilty and that the area had been evacuated by a large police detachment.
