KARACHI: According to reliable sources, as part of its anti-COVID-19 efforts, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) plans to engage the services of Pakistan Army doctors for each club playing in the next Pakistan Super League (PSL) seventh season 2022.
According to sources close to the situation, each PSL side would have one doctor from the Pakistan Army Medical Corps. Players and officials from each PSL club will be subjected to daily quick antigen testing at the hotel, similar to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021.
According to insiders, tight protocols will be in place throughout the competition to limit the spread of COVID-19, and PCR testing will not be accessible every day
The Army’s physicians will be in charge of doing health checks and obtaining temperature readings from the athletes. According to the sources, they were also employed during the PSL-6.
Domestic and international players, according to reliable sources, cannot be restricted for the whole week leading up to the league, as per the PCB’s COVID-19 guidelines.
Before leaving their home or nation, all players must obtain a negative PCR test result (within 72 hours). When the players arrive in Karachi, they will be tested for the virus once again.
Players who pass two negative tests in a week, according to sources, will be permitted to enter the bio-secure bubble. In the current circumstances, a PCB high-ranking official said that the board is powerless to prevent the virus, but that the board would continue to take steps to guarantee that daily antigen testing of each player is conducted.
Instead of commercial planes, chartered flights would be utilized to transport players from Karachi to Lahore, according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
According to insiders, two teams will fly on one chartered aeroplane at a time.
Pakistan recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases in a single day since October 30, according to official numbers provided today, with 708 infections confirmed in the last 24 hours.
The National Command and Control Centre (NCOC) reported that 45,643 diagnostic tests were conducted overnight, with 708 patients testing positive for coronavirus.
